Old Fort Niagara boasts three centuries of history.
Constructed by the French in
1726, Fort Niagara’s
original stone buildings have been preserved to look as
they
did before the American Revolution. This popular
tourist attraction, which
also features picnic and swimming
facilities, is open year round and is easily
reached
by following the Robert Moses Parkway north to the
Village Youngstown.
Our Lady of Fatima Shrine is supervised by
the Barnabite Fathers. The
Shrine features
a 15-acre
outdoor cathedral, more than 90 life-size marble
statues
of Saints, a giant rosary and a dome of the world,
topped by a 13 foot
granite statue. It is open year round
and is illuminated at night.
Niagara Power Project Visitor Center is
located within the Town of Lewiston.
This facility
is popular with area educational facilities as a learning
tool, as well as
being a favorite with tourists. The visitor
center includes an animated power
plant, terrain maps,
transmission line models, slides and motion pictures.
Lewiston Historical Museum is located on
the corner of Niagara and Plain Streets,
in the Village of
Lewiston. Open from June 1 to September 1, it depicts
the rich
history of this area.
Aquarium of Niagara Falls has more than forty exhibits which showcase over
1,500 aquatic animals from around the globe. The daily schedule includes penguin
feedings, sessions with the California sea lions and shark feedings.
Schoellkoph Geological Museum, the New York State’s muti-media museum,
explains the 500-million year geological history of the Falls. Accessible
by
walkway across from Aquarium.
